A Woman, A Homemaker

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” ESV

As I get ready to write in my blog, I remember simple words that won a homemaker a contest back in the 50's and still rings true today...Contest question: what would you do if you were President? She wrote (I wish I knew her name...this is from memory of what my mom told me, not verbatim):

"If I were President of the United States, I would administer to the office as a housewife to her home...throw out what is not usable, mend what is broken, and do the best with what I have!"

I've never been one of those "women's libbers". No, I'm not "a woman, hear me roar" from the 70's! However, I do believe in equal rights in the workplace for men and women doing the same job. If a woman believes it's necessary to work outside the home, that's fine. Although, it did appear during the 1950's and 60's when women stayed home as homemakers, life seemed better for most families. I know I liked it that my mom was there when I came home from school.

When I remarried, I tried to work part-time when my son was in school, but couldn't find a part-time job with the right hours or one where I would be off during the summer. Of course, when I was a single mom, I needed to work full-time and was fortunate enough to have my parents oversee the care of my son.

Back to the issue of a president, I think a president should be a man and have his wife be someone who is complementary to him, much like Rosalynn Carter was to Jimmy and Nancy Reagan to Ronald. Recently, I lost my head and made comments about our current president, it had nothing to do with politics (republican, democrat, or independent). I just wish things in life were like the words in this essay, maybe once they were. Striving to stay in a positive mind set about life and the world around me is very difficult!

Maybe a woman who's a great homemaker is what this country needs as president. What do you think?
