What's Your One Chicken?

Hebrews 13:16 (ESV) "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."

The other day I watched a video on Facebook. It was of an older lady with a southern accent telling a story about her family. I love to hear someone talk with a Southern accent, especially saying words like chicken and pie!

She told the story about when she was little her family lived in the country. All her neighbors had chickens as her family did. Her family depended on those chickens for meals, having eggs for breakfast, baking cakes, and making deviled eggs plus other dishes.

She said a fox got in the chicken coop one night and killed all 12 of their chickens. Her mom was devastated. Since they were poor, they couldn't buy 12 chickens so God gave her mom an idea. She went to 12 of her neighbors and asked each for one chicken. She got her  12 chickens.

She went on to say we all have one chicken to give.Your one chicken may be babysitting for a young mom, visiting a shut-in, or volunteering for a nonprofit.

This story was a great analogy for giving. What gives this story even more punch is when one can listen to it told by an older lady with a Southern accent! You might want to search it on Facebook.
