Seeking the Truth

Monday, July 8, 2024 Psalms 18:30 (TLB)  “What a God He is!  How perfect in every way!  All His promises prove true. He is a shield for everyone who hides behind Him.”

As I heard our President of the United States say this week in a speech in Wisconsin, “I know how to tell the truth”; I pondered that for isn’t there a difference between telling the truth versus knowing how?

When I studied at a university years ago, Professor Gannon would begin class by sharing the four C’s to reporting broadcast news.  Be Clear, Correct, Concise, and Conversational. It used to irritate me because he repeatedly said this in class and all these years later I recognize that it was good advice. As a news reporter, during my career this was what I used as my guide in telling the story. Today I fear telling the truth has often become muddied and I hesitate to rely on the truth reported in a newscast. What does God have to say about truth?

The Bible tells us in John 8:32 “and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”  The truth is we are slaves to sin and can only be set free from it by understanding what it is that God did. The Bible tells us in Job 28:27-28 that our Living God, “He knows where wisdom is and declares it to all who will listen. He established it and examined it thoroughly.  And this is what He says to all mankind: “Look, to fear The Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.

Are you a seeker of what is true? Then let me be clear. The great truths of God’s Word are there for the one who wonders what is and isn’t true.
