Psalm 119:28 “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to Your Word.”
God promises to renew and strengthen us in the midst of grief. It is so hard to face difficult news, but, God is right there with us bringing us through and providing hope and soothing balm to our broken heart. Jesus heals says The Bible in Isaiah 53:5. “But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”
As a young girl I remember in April of 1969 that the assasination of Martin Luther King Jr. was such a sad time. Such a fine man that had a dream that included to love, respect, and be there for each other.
From a child’s point of view it made no sense for these things to happen.
Our fine President who said, “Ask not what your country should do for you, ask what you should do for your country,” President John F. Kennedy was also killed while in a parade five years before that in November of 1963 while in Texas.
Oh how my young heart loved and admired that president. Being a Navy man, it is reported that President JFK’s casket was weighted down with sand bags and dropped into the Atlantic Ocean to have a burial at sea.

Sadly, the presidents brother, a senator, Robert F. Kennedy was also assasinated in the summer of that same year. Times were turbulent. The Hippies rejected the Vietnam war, and still attending school, I wrote to my cousin John who was drafted in the war. We were pen pals.
With much unrest and confusion in the country, I kept my mind turned to God’s Word and prayer for the USA and war, and prayed for a reset from civil unrest. Our involvement in The Vietnam war ended by the time I was in high school. Always God was with us. He continues to work His miracles in our lives, and in our country even today, always bringing hope when it’s most needed.
I don’t know what I would have done or what I would do today. without the realization of The ever-present, ever-faithful, peaceful, calming presence of God. Knowing The One who calms the storms of life has made all the difference.
In Mark 4:39, Jesus was in the boat with the disciples and got up from a nap, rebuked the wind and said, “Quiet, be still!” “Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”
