Mother's Day 101

Monday, May 12, 2025

Ephesians 4:32 “Instead be kind to each other, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you because you belong to Christ.”

If you’re a mom or grandmother reading this, may I be the first to congratulate you for surviving another Mother’s Day.

Since it was the Mother’s Day Weekend, my husband and I decided we would pick up food already made and skip going to the grocery store.  We were scheduled to have the three grandchildren Friday through Sunday morning with a double-header of little league baseball to attend for the 7 year old on Saturday.

One started at noon and the other was at 4pm.  It made for a rather long day for baseball. In between ball games, dogs had to be fed for our daughter who was celebrating 11 years of marriage with her husband by off road trail riding. Friday after working, my husband and I drove to Columbus to pick up chickens.  We added to our coop because  production had slowed from our older backyard hens.

My Sister-in-law, Mary, and her husband, Bruce, stopped off for a visit.  Following our return from getting the chickens, we led Mary and Bruce over to our favorite flower garden nursery. After getting some flower baskets, we enjoyed dinner by sampling several dishes made by Franco Foodie.  The Italian cuisine was fun to try.  Three of us liked the Eggplant dish best.  One enjoyed the spaghetti bolognese.

Managing a game of Balderdash before the grandkids spent the night finished up our evening with laughter.
By now you must be picking up on the fact that this was fun at times and also hectic. Tensions can increase with the smaller children before a needed nap, or bedtime and can’t be helped.  This is why my husband and I had a great laugh over this incident.

Our 3-year-old acting his age resulted in a conversation where Papaw sternly said to him, “Ryder, what were you thinking?” and his response to Papaw, “I’m just a little guy.  I don’t know what I’m thinking.”
His answer makes me smile every time I think about it.

All of us were glad to see “Mom” on Sunday morning. Our daughter who is a wonderful Mom, brought me a new favorite Winan’s coffee combination with dark roast, dark chocolate and two shots of sugar free butterscotch in it. She then shared how she bought two bouquets of flowers, one for me and the other for her mother-in-law.

The oldest, the 7 year old, overheard the conversation, then perked up and said, “Mom, look what I have for you.” He brings to her a single white and pink carnation passed out with the snacks at Little League.

It was better than any bouquet, because it was given with such love.
