Sometimes it is good to be reminded that God is in the simple chores. Looking at The Bible on ways to refresh others through serving them, I Corinthians 16:14,15b,18 NIV, "Do everything in love, ...they have devoted themselves to the service of the Lord's people. For they refreshed my spirit and yours also."
Busy morning, mine started at 6:30AM, right after I finished my cup of coffee and folded laundry. The grandsons were here today by 730AM. Sheets, pillow cases, and blankets were freshly laundered. Together we wiped down doors, woodwork, and I wiped down the baby pack and play, and baby mattress. Even our one year old grandson tried to help with cleaning off his little handprints. It was not bad, but, needed to be done.
My sister-in-law said those boys are a real blessing to you both, referencing her brother and I enjoying grandparenting. With another grandchild on the way, I responded, yes, every sticky fingerprint is a blessing! Every dirty diaper is a chore worth doing. And every opportunity to be patient can bring out the personal strength in you that comes from counting on God's help. Like this morning when the oldest grandchild, age 5, decided it would be great fun to sit in the laundry basket several times hopping in and out, while I was trying to fold clothes.
Hopefully these acts of service will strengthen patience, while praying to keep my sense of humor. Can I be fun and not grouchy in old age? I am hoping so while having the opportunity to help one another. Remember that to refresh another person's day...it can be done by doing small things with great love.
