Some of the most beautiful words and phrases come from the Bible. The Psalms and Proverbs are my favorite books to read.
I love words to many hymns as well. That's the extent of my devotional today. Words from poems and songs.
Here is a hymn written by Phillip P. Bliss, 1874, that’s one of my favorites.
“Beautiful Words, Wonderful Words of Life” …
… Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life,
Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life;
Words of life and beauty teach me faith and duty.
… Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life,
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.
… Christ, the blessed One, gives to all wonderful words of life;
Sinner, list to the loving call, wonderful words of life;
All so freely given, wooing us to heaven.
… Sweetly echo the Gospel call, wonderful words of life;
Offer pardon and peace to all, wonderful words of life;
Jesus, only Savior, sanctify us forever.
And there are more words woven to the page that I truly love, and these are from an unknown author.
These words about life are so endearing. I remember another one. It was one of my mom's favorite, "A Beautiful Life" and she reminsced about this song that her brother-in-law, L.B. Jordan, used to sing. I placed it on the pamphlet given out at her funeral.
A Beautiful Life
Each day I'll do a golden deed, By helping those who are in need;
My life on earth is but a span, And so I’ll do the best I can.
Life’s evening sun is sinking low, A few more days, and I must go
To meet the deeds that I have done, Where there will be no setting sun.
To be a child of God each day, My light must shine along the way;
I’ll sing His praise while ages roll, And strive to help some troubled soul.
The only life that will endure, Is one that’s kind and good and pure;
And so for God I’ll take my stand, Each day I’ll lend a helping hand.
I’ll help someone in time of need, And journey on with rapid speed;
I’ll help the sick and poor and weak, And words of kindness to them speak.
While going down life’s weary road, I’ll try to lift some trav’ler’s load;
I’ll try to turn the night to day, Make flowers bloom along the way.
